Workshops at Asheville BookWorks


BookWorks offers an extensive selection of hands-on workshops in all areas of Book Arts including; bookbinding, letterpress printing, papermaking, printmaking, decorative paper and related topics. We teach to all skill levels throughout the year with preparatory classes followed by advanced classes. We like to suggest companion classes whenever possible to expand skills and encourage opportunities for interaction and collaboration between areas of paper, print and binding with an emphasis on editioning.

Historical Bindings: Ethiopian-Style Codex

Hybrid Bindings / Blending Historical and Contemporary book structures

Feb. 21, 23, 28 and March 1, 2012 Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6 – 9 PM

Description: In this four-day workshop we will be using various traditional sewing methods combined with modern techniques to make long lasting journals with traditional materials. The binding features raised cords with laced on boards, goatskin leather spines, and decorative paper. Students will learn 3-4 different methods of sewing that can be applied to future projects.

Papermaking 1: Pulp to Paper

March 24 and 25, 2012 Saturday & Sunday: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (with a 1 hour lunch break)
