BookWorks Workshops
BookWorks offers a full-spectrum of hands-on workshops, including: bookbinding, printmaking, letterpress, decorative paper, and papermaking. We are currently moving toward a class schedule that informs, relates and coordinates with two significant annual projects unique to BookWorks: BookOpolis in September, and Interlude Editions. Introduction to the basics of letterpress and bookbinding are both followed by advanced classes throughout the year. We like to suggest companion classes whenever possible that expand skills and encourage opportunities for interaction / collaboration between areas of print and binding with an emphasis on editioning. Interested students that have developed competence in printing and binding may sign up to be part of a collaborative team working with a project coordinator to edition posters, broadsides and artists’ books through Interlude Editions

Workshops are designed and taught with respect for traditional and contemporary materials and processes. Knowledge of historical book structures builds a foundation in the rich history of books from cultures east and west; from ancient to post-modern times, while the study and practice of contemporary artists’ books and experimental methods brings intuitive creativity, inventiveness and personal expression to the realm of books and book arts. This combination of old and new is fertile ground for students, resident artists and artist/instructors at BookWorks
Open Studio for Students
Students enrolled in classes are welcome to attend Open Studio at BookWorks. Open Studio provides access to needed equipment and workspace to complete class assignments. Instructors currently teaching classes will be scheduled on a posted rotating basis and will be on hand for informal assistance only. Open Studio is a self-motivated opportunity and is not a class requirement.
Students enrolled in weekend classes may work during the two Open Studio dates the month of or following their class.
