, started in 2009, is a project based initiative for artists, designers and writers having experience in at least one area of book arts (printmaking, papermaking, letterpress, bookbinding), who are interested in creative independent work as well as collaborating with other artists, designers and writers. The Co-op is a community of artists, designers and writers working in the book form and print from Western NC and beyond.
The entire month of December will be devoted to items for holiday and year-round giving. It features work by coop members and invited artists working in print and book arts. We’re seeking original prints, greetings cards, posters, handmade books, handmade paper items, ornaments and other creative, handmade works of art for the gallery.
Please send your high-resolution images of actual work or representative work (not necessary, but highly helpful) by Friday October 18th and it will used in press releases to go out this month to Verve, Bold Life, Laurel of Asheville, WNC Magazine, and later this month we’ll send press release and info to the Citizen-Times and Mt. Xpress.

Consignment Form, to accompany Artwork: Consign Form 09-2011-1
Greetings,
We’re seeking work for the Holiday Sale.
Members of the BookWorks Co-op, the Ladies of Letterpress and local Asheville Artists working in Letterpress, Print and Book Arts are invited to participate in the 2011 BookWorks Holiday Show and Sale. For the month of December, we’ll transform the BookWorks Gallery into a shopping destination for handmade cards, books, and gift items. Each participant will be responsible for all labeling, display (shelves, boxes or containers), and completing an inventory sheet provided by e-mail (see attached consignment form). The amount of space will depend on how many people we have to accommodate. BookWorks will retain 40% of sale, providing marketing, advertising and a reception for the Holiday Show and Sale. Please note:
- A label should be on each item and include retail price and the seller’s initials.
- Consider your setup, BookWorks doesn’t have a card rack. Retail items are displayed on shelves and should be in boxes provided by the artist, for example, file-like boxes that people can flip though. Boxes or display containers can be handmade, personalized or purchased. There is plenty of wall space to display small framed pieces or broadsides too.
- Show and Sale dates: Dec. 1 – 31, 2011. Reception: December 3, 1 – 5pm, hot cider and sweets.
- Receiving Work: Send or deliver work by Nov. 29, 2011
- Pick up dates: Jan. 2 – 4, 2012 – Cards and gifts that aren’t holiday specific, can remain for sale in our retail area after the Holiday Show.
Please let BookWorks know by November 1, 2011 if you would like to participate by emailing gallery@ashevillebookworks.com or by calling 828-255-8444.
