Historical Bindings: Ethiopian-Style Codex

Hybrid Bindings / Blending Historical and Contemporary book structures

Feb. 21, 23, 28 and March 1, 2012 Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6 – 9 PM

Description: In this four-day workshop we will be using various traditional sewing methods combined with modern techniques to make long lasting journals with traditional materials. The binding features raised cords with laced on boards, goatskin leather spines, and decorative paper. Students will learn 3-4 different methods of sewing that can be applied to future projects.

Woven Longstitch on Leather

April 20 & 21, 2012 Friday 6-9 PM and Saturday 9 AM – 4 PM

Description: In this two day workshop students will leave with an incredibly durable leather journal that will stand the test of time. We will be modernizing this historic structure by lining decorative paper to leather to create an elegant flexible cover, and then weaving the spine in a unique pattern.

Quarter Leather Notebook

May 2, 2012 Wednesday, 10 – 5pm
