The marks we make become a language, recording time, energy and narrative. Working with paper and cloth we will explore the beauty of marks and stitches made by hand and what they can symbolize and express. Using primarily black and white we will use additive, subtractive and repetitive processes to give marks meaning. Repetitive marks can convey a visual and physical pattern, a sense of language and of narrative. Scale, transparency, contrast and density will be expressed through marks created by painting and drawing, stitching, resisting, burning, and punching. Our samples will be collected into a personal book for reference and future exploration.
