This two-day workshop will introduce students to three non-adhesive, soft-cover binding structures and their variations: the link stitch, long stitch and tacket binding. These structures are extremely versatile and can serve as means for re-binding existing books, assembling found materials, creating altered books and inspiring new content with beautifully bound blank pages. Students are encouraged to bring found materials to class, particularly used books that have already been sewn by section at the gutter, which can be reassembled using the demonstrated forms. In addition, students can bring their favorite colors of book thread to class if they would like to experiment with the integration of color into the exposed spines of each structure.
