The Accordion as Instigator: Hybrid Books
February 19-20, 2011 new class
Saturday & Sunday 9:00 am-4:00 pm
$202 + materials fee
Instructor: Bridget Elmer
The accordion fold is captivating structure in and of itself. In combination with other components (pamphlet stitch, series of single sheets, tabs and boards), this historical form becomes an instigator of all things contemporary! On the first day of this exciting class, students will learn the basics of making two variations of the accordion fold book: the trimmed and tipped accordion and the double folio accordion. In addition, both adhesive and non-adhesive board coverings and attachments will be demonstrated. On the second day of the workshop, we will begin to experiment with our accordions, integrating a variety of additional structures into the existing forms. Students will walk away with a truly unique collection of forms that will redefine the accordion for all of us!
