Paste Papers: Historical & Contemporary Surface Design

Material fee includes: Tools, Paper, Wheat Paste, PVA, Powdered pigments, Printmaking block.

Larry Lou Foster is a modern master of the traditional paste paper art form. In this class Ms. Foster will demonstrate traditional combed and pulled patterns as well as contemporary variations of the same, making “block printed” papers, using ‘pattern jigs’ for editions and finishing papers. Explanations of patterns, techniques, tools and materials will be covered. Ms. Foster encourages creative thinking about edition work as well as ‘one-of-a-kind.’’

Please bring the following items:

  • 4 bowls with 4 plastic bags large enough to put bowls into
  • 1 large spoon
  • 4 small sponges
  • 1 spray bottle or atomizer for water
  • 1-pint wide mouth canning jar or similar straight sided jar with top
  • 1 plastic bucket, gallon size
  • rags for clean-up
  • (optional) Any scraps of good paper, any size, that is strong when wet (Arches, Bugra, Bryon Weston, Mohawk)
  • (optional) Any acrylic, casein, gouache paints or any powdered pigment you may want to use in addition to the colors provided
  • (optional) 1 3/8” x 36” dowel rod
